Reykjadalur valley in the mountains above the town of Hveragerdi is getting more and more popular. The reason is simple, the warm river of Reykjadalsa is very cozy and suitable for bathing all year. Despite often cold winds and lack of changing rooms people prepare quickly to get into the warm water.

The geothermal activity in Reykjadalur starts above the Djúpagilsfossar waterfalls and hot springs can be found all the way upp to the waterfall in Klambragil ravine. These hot springs are of great variety with boiling water or bubbly muddy pools.

The cabin that was in Reykjadalur a few years back burned down and what remains is a lone outhouse still serving its purpose.

Another gem in the neighborhood is Graendalur (Green valley) next to Reykjadalur. The crowds of people in Reykjadalur are not to be seen in Graendalur despite there being more geothermal activity and more variety of hot springs. The name Green valley comes from green vegetation around the hot springs that keeps its colour all year. It is fascinating to hike through Graendalur in the winter as the green colours of the vegetation, the white snow and dark coloured cliffs create a beautiful world.
